The association
The Touring Club of Akureyri (FFA) is an outdoor enthusiasts' association that aims to promote exercise and travel in Iceland, especially the North. The association was founded on April 8, 1936.
FFA is the largest division within the the Iceland Touring Association (FÍ).
The Touring Club is a volunteer organization and has a number of committees working around the projects carried out in the association.
The operation of the huts is an important part of the association's work, but in total the association owns and operates three larger huts and four hiking huts. All work around the huts is done on a voluntary basis.
The association organizes trips and publishes an itinerary for each year, including a great walking week in June.
The society publishes the magazine Ferðir (Travels) annually. It has been published almost continuously since 1940.
Þaulinn is a walking game that the club has been running since 2010. A kids' club was added to that game in 2017. In 2020, the club began organizing special physical activity projects where people can sign up for a group for specific projects.
In 2021, special children's and family trips were planned, marking the beginning of organized children's and family activities in addition to the kids' day. The goal is to encourage children and parents to spend time together and exercise outdoors. Trips and other activities that will be under the banner of children's and family activities are based on the assumptions of children and tailored to their needs.
