Mobility projects and courses 2020
In 2020, the Akureyri Tourist Association began organizing special physical activity projects in the spirit of FÍ. Those who participate in them register for a group for a specific project for a fee. The main goal of the groups is outdoor activities, tackling their own challenges and walking in good company. FFA aims to offer a variety of physical activity groups to meet the needs and wishes of as many people as possible. Therefore, all good suggestions are welcome.
The first FFA activity group was named Come out into the Icelandic summer and filled up quickly. The tour leaders were Anna Sigrún Rafnsdóttir and Kristján Hreinsson. The group began its journey in May 2020 and completed the project in September, managing to keep to the plan despite COVID-19. A great variety of trips characterized the project and more often than not, locals were invited to tell about the nature and history of the places. The group's project difficulty level was estimated at 2 points. It is planned to have a similar group in the summer of 2021.
Another hiking group began operations in September 2020. It was named More Mountains and it also filled up quickly. There, participants are challenged to hike in the mountains in winter and are expected to be at a difficulty level of 3 - 4 shoes. Participants receive, among other things, information about winter hiking equipment and insight and practice in using GPS devices in mountain hiking. The tour guides are Einar Bjarki Sigurjónsson and Christina Finke. The plan was to complete the project in December, but restrictions on the number of people due to COVID-19 have put a damper on the project. The project will therefore run until January 2021.
In early December 2020, a new project was introduced and advertised. It is a mountain skiing project that was simply named Fjallaskíðahópur FFA. That project will start in January 2021 if all goes well. There is a lot of interest in this group and fewer people got in than wanted. The tour guides are Kristín Irene Valdemarsdóttir and Jón Marinó Sævarsson.
Important!
No refunds will be given after the project has begun.
Participants travel at their own risk on FFA projects and trips. FFA does not insure its passengers or their luggage and encourages people to familiarize themselves with their own home insurance or purchase travel and accident insurance.
It is advantageous to become a member of FFA. With an FFA membership card you get discounts in many sporting goods stores such as Ski Service and Outdoor and Sport, as well as discounts on trips, activities and accommodation in cabins, see more: Become a member of FFA, where you can register for the club.
